Adolphe Marais painter of landscapes and pastoral subjects, Adolphe Marais was a pupil of the animal painter , Georges Busson and of Narcisse Berchère , then of César de Cock . He also receives advice from his neighbor Eugène Boudin , born in Honfleur like him. Alongside other naturalist painters such as Ernest Duez (1843-1896), Ulysse Butin (1838-1883), Jean-Charles Cazin (1841-1901), Adolphe Marais did not hide his admiration for Boudin. His name comes up regularly in Boudin’s letters , who had an abundant correspondence with other painters. The young man from Honfleur met the residents of the Saint-Siméon farm and his friend Charles-François Daubigny also gave him advice. It was Daubigny, whom he met in Honfleur, who encouraged him to become a painter and to study in Paris. He particularly admires Corot . Constant Troyon inspired him with large canvases.
