Ernst Adolph Meissner was a German animal and landscape painter of the Munich School and a copper engraver. Ernst Adolph Meissner was born to Carl Meissner and Johanna Christiane, b. Leschke born in Dresden and baptized Lutheran-Lutheran. Meissner received his education at the Dresden Academy of Arts , where he was enrolled from 1851 to 1855. His teachers were Robert Kummer and Ludwig Richter. He belonged to the artistic circle of Otto Gebler, Christian Friedrich Mali and Heinrich Zügel. Already as a young man he traveled extensively to Switzerland, to Italy, Holland and Hungary. In 1870 he settled in Munich. On November 20, 1880, he married Marie Magdalena Sofie Meier from Regensburg. The children Robert Ernst Wilhelm and Luise Anna Auguste Meissner emerged from this marriage. Meissner became known for his landscapes in which he represents the barren life of the rural population. Most animals play a central role in the paintings. Important works were shown in 1902 in an exhibition in the Munich Glass Palace; Some paintings acquired King Albert of Saxony . Even today, there are pictures in well-known state galleries and art houses such as in the state art collection Dresden, the Landesmuseum Graz, Lenbachhaus Munich, City Archives Amsterdam, as well as in private and family possessions.
