The Spring of Life; two little girls in simple rustic dress, one standing at the edge of a brook, holding a jug for the other, who sits to left with a basket beside her and a small open fire and magnifying glass on the grass in the foreground, with livestock in the field behind to left and a cascade falling over the wooded rocky bank on the opposite bank.
Henry Campotosto was a British, painter and draughtsman. He was also known for his genre paintings. Early in his career he lived in Brussels. By 1882 he moved to London moved to London. He remained in London until his death in 1910. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including ‘The Bird’s Nest’ sold at Christie’s New York ’19th Century European Art and Orientalist Art’ in 2008 for $37,500.
