Streatley, Berkshire England landscape. In the distance you can see The Bull at Streatley. The village has just one pub, The Bull at Streatley, a traditional 15th Century Coaching Inn positioned in the heart of the village. It’s also famous for being one of the stops in Jerome K Jerome’s book ‘3 Men in a Boat.’ Fascinatingly the pub’s garden is the burial site for a monk and nun who were executed for ‘misconduct’ in 1440. The pub is a popular stay with visitors attempting the Ridgeway Walk – a walk that starts in the World Heritage Site of Avebury and follows a ridge of chalk hills in a northeasterly direction for 87 miles to reach Ivinghoe Beacon lying to the northwest of London.
Alfred Dawson was a nineteenth century British etcher and painter of landscapes and topographical views. He was the son of Henry Dawson (1811-1878) and younger brother of Henry Thomas Dawson. He studied under his father who was a marine and landscape painter. Alfred exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1860 until 1889. Dawson also exhibited at Suffolk Street and the British Institute as well as at various other venues throughout the British Isles.
