On the first day of “The Decameron” the queen tells her story. She says: “Valorous young women, as in the serene nights the stars are the ornament of the sky, and as in spring the flowers are the ornament of the green meadows, so witticisms are the ornament of cultivated manners and agreeable conversation.” The young queen’s listeners seem pleased with her observations.
Jacques-Clément Wagrez (Paris 1846-1908). Wagrez specialized in historical genre paintings mostly settled in the Italian renaissance. They are well done, but mostly without any further intention that to be a nice piece of decoration.
