Joseph-Antoine Gardet was a French sculptor, Rome Prize for sculpture in 1885. Son of the sculptor Joseph Gardet, and brother of the sculptor Georges Gardet, Joseph-Antoine Gardet is enrolled at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, where he is a pupil of Jules Cavelier and Aimé Millet After a second prize in 1884, he was awarded the first prize in Rome in 1885 for his plaster bas-relief The Body of a Spartan soldier who died in battle, delivered to his mother. This price allows him to stay at the Villa Medici in Rome until 1889. After his return to Paris, he exhibited his statue of the Tireur à l’Arc at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in 1890. He died in Paris on February 24, 1891and is buried in the Montparnasse cemetery . The Sleep of the Infant Jesus , was exhibited at the Salon of 1891 where she received a favorable critical reception.
