Augustus (or Augusta) Ludwig was a German artist-portraitist. On the life of the artist A. Ludwig, little is known, she was born in 1834 in Germany. Cousin of the writer Otto Ludwig (1813-1865), and landscape painter Karl Ludwig (1839-1901). She studied at Weimar Friedrich Wilhelm Marterstayga, and then at the Dresden Academy of Arts Gottfried Julius Scholz. In 1880 she settled in Düsseldorf , where she continued teaching professors of the Academy of Painting at the Arts Rudolf Jordan and Gustav Stevera. Since 1868 she participated in exhibitions. Later she moved and worked in Berlin . She died in 1901, according to some reports, in Düsseldorf. August Ludwig produced mainly portraits , genre paintings, and occasionally landscapes . Of particular interest her attraction to children. She has created a series of paintings with happy children, emulating his actions adults.
