Lawrence Barnett Phillips was an artist, author, painter and etcher. Phillips was an active exhibitor, showing in London at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, Royal Institue of Oil Painters, Dowdeswell Galleries, Walker’s Gallery and Society of British Artists, a society that appointed James Whistler its President in 1886. He also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and Manchester City Art Gallery. In 1887 he was elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers.
