To the right a boy plays a flute while sitting in a barn. A dog listens intently at his feet. Two horses feed at a trough to the left. Beside the boy rests a bowl and soap and a towel on the bench where he sits. A ladder rises in the left foreground and an open door is in the right background.
Joseph Benwell Clark was born in Cerne Abbas in 1857. He became an artist working in London, painting and teaching at the Slade.
