Cupid and Psyche; Psyche sitting on a rock, naked to the waist, looking to right at the winged youth who kneels beside her, cradling her head in his right hand, taking her hand with his left and embracing her, his bow resting on her upturned urn on the ground between them, mountains in the background; arched format.
Thomas Uwins was an English portrait, subject, genre and landscape painter (in watercolour and oil), and a book illustrator. He became a full member of the Old Watercolour Society and a Royal Academician, and held a number of high-profile art appointments including librarian of the Royal Academy, Surveyor of Pictures to Queen Victoria and Keeper of the National Gallery.
