Henry Charles Tenré was born in 1864. He grew up in Paris, and studied at the Musée des Antiquités Nationales. In the 1880’s, he began studying at the École des Beaux-Arts under Edmond Yon, Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre. His focus was on historical and portrait painting.
